Essential Oil Glass Bottle Must Haves

When I first started using essential oils I went a little crazy ordering a bunch of glass bottles and droppers of all various sizes. I should have researched a little more before buying a bunch of stuff that I didn't need or have use for.  There were, however, 4 different glass products that I use and can't go without.  I have listed them below for your reference. I ordered them all on Amazon.com since I am obsessed and also try and use my Amazon Prime membership as much as possible.  I am sure you could fine them on other websites as well.

You always want to use glass bottles for your oils and metal whenever possible. This is because some of the oils break down plastic (citrus oils). You also want to try and use dark amber or blue bottles so the light doesn't destroy and break down the benefits of the oils. You can use clear as long as it is kept in a cool, dark place (such as your purse, medicine cabinet, etc).

#1 Favorite - 10ml Blue Glass Roller Balls with Metal Rollers.

These 10ml Blue Glass Roller bottles with Metal Rollers are so versatile and great to throw in your purse and take with you. I carry 3 of them in my purse at all times. One contains Young Living Peace & Calming, one has my seasonal relief blend of RC and Lavender, and the other contains Peppermint in jojoba oil.  This is also great for keeping oil mixes at your bedside for sleep and for little ones at bedtime.

When you first use the roller ball it may seem that not a lot of oil is coming out of the roller or that the roller isn't spinning. It does take a few hard rolls to get the ball coated and start rolling. Once it is covered in oil it rolls really easy and disperses the perfect amount of oil. I always screw the cap back on tight and have never had an issue with leaks. As a precaution, I do put them in a zip lock bag just in case!  I also love the fact that the roller is metal and not plastic.  Always use glass and metal for citrus oils!

#2 Favorite - 2ml Amber Glass Essential Oil Bottle (12 Pack)

These 2ml Amber glass bottles are perfect for mixing small amounts of oils or sharing oils with friends. They come with a reducer cap, which allows only one drop at a time to come out of the bottle (just like most essential oil bottles).

I use these to mix my clear face and skin blend, which consists of:

4 drops Melrose Blend
4 drops Purificaiton blend
4 drops Thieves blend
4 drops lavender
Top off wiht carrier oil, such as jojoba or sweet almond, or fractionated coconut oil.

#3 Favorite - 5ml Glass Pump Spray Bottles (4 Pack)

These 5ml glass spray bottles are refillable and come in a pack of 4.  The spray caps are plastic, however, so I am not sure how long term use of them will hold up, but I am loving them at the moment.

These bottles can be used for a quick air freshener for small places, such as the car or small room (*ahem*, bathroom at work perhaps? *Ahem*)

They are also great for mixing perfumes or colognes to take with you in your purse.  Oils do not mix with water well, so you will want to mix your perfumes or colognes with a mix of 50/50 water and Witch Hazel (found cheap in any pharmacy store or grocery store sometimes). You can also use vodka or perfumers alcohol.

My favorite use for them is making pillow sprays. I make one for my son for sleepy time with Lavender and Peace & Calming Young Living oils and I make a "Love Potion" pillow spray for hubby and I. The love potion consists of the following:

12 Drops Sandalwood
5 Drops Ylang-ylang
5 Drops Vanilla
2 Drops Cinnamon
1 Drop Jasmine Absolute
Top off with a little Witch Hazel and the rest with water. Shake well before spraying.

(Some of the above oils can be VERY expensive or hard to find through my favorite distributor, Young Living.  I have found a great line of oils available on Amazon.com made by Healing Solutions, such as the Jasmine Absolute I used above. They are 100% pure and organic and are therapeutic grade oils. I have never had an issue with them and they work just as well when I can't get the "best of the best" through Young Living. I would not ingest anything other that Young Living, however!)

And last, but not at all least...

#4 Favorite - Blue Glass Spray Bottle 16oz

This bottle has become one of my favorites lately, due to spring time. These bottles are perfect for making your own Tick/Bug Sprays as well as room air fresheners, and cleaning products.

I recently used mine to create a Tick/Bug spray for my dog and family below. Again, be sure to use a mixture of about 50/50 water and witch hazel or vodka in order get your oils to mix well.

Tick & Bug Spray

  • Fill a 16oz bottle 1/2 way with water and the rest should be filled up, within 1 inch from the top, with witch hazel or vodka.
  • 20 drops Citronella
  • 20 drops Eucalyptus
  • 20 drops Lemongrass
  • 20 drops Purification
  • 10 drops Palo Santos (oil has been known to kill ticks and 2-3 drops on an embedded tick makes them back out)
  • 10 drops Lavender
You can adjust this for an 8oz bottle, just cut the number of drops in 1/2. You can use many different types of oils too or more or less of any one of the above if you do not have all of them.  This blog has great instructions and I used it as a guide for my recipe. It also provides other oil options to make your own Homemade Bug Repellent

Happy Spring Time!!
