Large Dog Bed from Toddler Bed & Crib Mattress
When we got our new pup I knew I was going to want a big bed for her in our living room to keep her off our new couch. Some dogs like napping on the floor, however, I found out they prefer to be more at your level or raised off the ground. I spent a long time researching expensive bed frames and DIY projects that I knew I would have to make my poor husband help me with.
Then I came up with a brilliant idea. Why not use a crib mattress (also referred to as toddler size mattress) and buy a small toddler bed?! I had already had a crib sized mattress from this post : Large Dog Bed from Crib Mattress. *Please note I'm not getting anything for these recommendations and am not affiliated with any company, just trying to help people out!*
You can also find good condition crib mattresses on yard sale sites on F*acebook Marketplace or on your town yard sale pages on F*acebook or Craigslist. You may also get lucky and find someone selling a toddler bed!
I did some research and read tons of reviews on Amazon and Walmart. I narrowed it down to two styles that were very similar. One basically had a draw on the bottom ($109.00 at Walmart) and the other didn't ($115.51 at Walmart). The reviews on the one with the draw stated a lot of times the draw was difficult to put in, didn't fit properly, or didn't close easily. I decided to go without the draw.
I decided to make my purchase from Walmart as I figured a return to Walmart was easier than through Amazon for something this large. The price was the same either way with free shipping. The bed I chose was the Dream On Me Austin Toddler Day Bed. It comes in 4 different colors, I chose white and it was $115.51.
It arrived in perfect condition and easy directions. The hardest part was lining up the rails when putting the front and back together. My husband assisted and we found laying it on the back piece flat on the floor and standing the rails strait up towards the ceiling worked best to try and put the front on and line them all up.
I absolutely love how it looks in our living room. Best thing is you can use a crib sheet to change it up whenever you want. If you don't already have one, I suggest also adding a waterproof crib pad under your sheet to make your bed waterproof and easy to clean Especially with puppy accidents or older dogs. I also have since added some comfy pillows on each end for her to lay on. I think Raven approves. Again, she is a spoiled rotten dog!
