Large Dog Bed From A Target Foam Crib Mattress for $49.99!

Have a large dog but don't want to spend $100 or more on a good dog bed? I have found the solution!

First I just want to say I am not being compensated or getting anything at a discount for this post. I just hope it helps out all those other fur-parents of extra large dogs out there.

So I can't tell you how many dog beds my dog has gone through. She is a 90 lbs German Shepherd. I did purchased an orthopedic memory foam bed through Amazon.com about 2 years ago and it is still in great shape and she loves it. I needed to buy another one for our bedroom but I just couldn't see myself paying the same amount I did for that one, which was about $150.00!

I came across this  Graco Crib and Toddler Mattress-in-a-Box from Target while searching and thought it would be the perfect solution, and it so was!!

Not only do you get a 5" Foam Mattress, which is huge (about 52" x 27"), it also comes with a waterproof insert, mattress cover, and a flame resistant cover (which I didn't use since I really don't think it's necessary) all for only $49.99!!!  That is way cheaper than any other foam dog bed I have been able to find and cheaper than just buying a chunk of foam from a craft store.

The foam crib mattress is also available on Amazon.com for a few cents cheaper and you will get free 2 day shipping if you have Amazon Prime.

I read all the reviews on Amazon and followed what other reviewers have said about opening and leaving the mattress out to expand.  I followed the below steps and it turned out great!

1. Opened box and unrolled mattress

2. Removed all plastic wrap

3. Removed all covers, including the waterproof insert (mine was full of static so be careful not to get static shock!). You should have a plain white foam mattress with breathing holes.

4. Leave mattress out flat for two days to let it fully expand.  This also helps air out the mattress, which has a slight smell, but not bad at all.

5. Put covers back onto mattress (first waterproof insert then the cover). I would assume the fire resistant cover would go on last, but I didn't use it. I washed my mattress cover but DO NOT WASH THE WATERPROOF INSERT!!

6. I chose to also put a fitted crib sheet that I bought from Target over everything so it would match my bedroom, but this is optional.  This is great too since you can just peal it off and wash it. With all the cute crib sheet prints it's easy to change up the style and patterns too!

And then......let sleeping dogs lie!

Hope your pet enjoys their bed as much as mine is!!
